Our Mission

Purple Silk Music Education Foundation is an Oakland California based non-profit that supports music education for inner-city youth. Our programs include the Great Wall Youth Orchestra & Chorus of Laney College and the Purple Bamboo Orchestra and Chorus of Lincoln Elementary School. Our mission is to instill in young people an appreciation of music from all cultures through instruction in traditional Chinese instruments.

Learn to play and perform

We welcome all children who wish to study Chinese and World music.. Classes for beginner, intermediate and advanced are taught every Saturday at Laney College. On Friday nights, we have rehearsal for the children's chorus. At Lincoln Elementary School, children from third through fifth grades receive weekly music instruction.
